K-Laser Therapy – Treating Wounds and Ulcers

k laser therapy.

Welcome to part three of our blog series on the use of K laser therapy.

In this blog we will be covering how the K laser can be used in the treatment of ulcers and wounds. This could include a chronic ulcer, new wound, a burn, or a post-surgical wound.

The trouble with wounds:

Getting wounds to heal can be difficult, especially if you are diabetic, you don’t have great blood flow, or have other health concerns that get in the way of healing.

Wounds are normally painful and the longer they take to recover the more likely they are to get infected.

This is particularly true of foot wounds as the feet have the double disadvantage of having the poorest circulation of any part of the body because they are the furthest from the heart and because the foot is so exposed to different bugs through its contact with the ground when walking.

So, getting a foot and leg wound to recover ASAP to prevent serious complications like infection or ulceration is incredibly important.

How can K Laser therapy help treat wounds?

Research has shown wounds treated with K laser typically recover around 40% faster than they otherwise would.

As explained in greater detail in the first blog in this series the laser works to speed up the rate that cells operate and recover at, as well as increases blood flow and oxygen supply.

This combination of the stimulation of cellular healing, additional blood and oxygen, plus the antimicrobial effect of the laser means that wounds get on the road to recovery much quicker

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required will be dependent on the size and depth of the wound.

In most cases, the laser treatment will be required twice a week for three weeks. After that, it is usually required fortnightly until the wound is healed.

Is there any pain with K laser treatment for wounds?

No!

The laser provides a warm feeling on the area treated but most people describe this as a pleasant feeling with no discomfort.

How much does the K-laser for wound treatment cost?

For the use of the K-Laser, we charge an additional $39 on top of our normal consultations.

Where can i get k laser treatment in Melbourne?

As the K-Laser treatment unit is a high end piece of medical equipment there are not too many podiatry clinics who offer this treatment. However, here at Hurst Podiatry, we spent a lot of time researching this type of treatment and believe that it is vital as it can be successfully used to treat a wide variety of conditions. That’s why we have two of these units available for use at our Mooroolbark and Healesville Head Office clinic locations. We can also make them available at our Croydon and Kilsyth locations if required.
