Diagnostic Ultrasound

At Hurst Podiatry, we pride ourselves on staying at the forefront of technology to provide our patients with the highest standard of care.

To this end, we have invested in diagnostic ultrasound at our clinics and additional training for our staff so they can accurately use this foot ultrasound technology.

This means that you don’t need to be referred off-site for imaging – saving you time and money!

What is a diagnostic ultrasound?

Diagnostic ultrasound in podiatry is a non-invasive imaging technique that utilises sound waves to create detailed images of the foot and ankle structures.

This advanced technology allows for precise visualisation of soft tissues, joints, and tendons, aiding our podiatrists in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Diagnostic ultrasound can provide real-time images to our podiatrist that allow us to assess the nature, location, and severity of a number of conditions.

Benefits of Diagnostic Ultrasound in Podiatry

The benefits of diagnostic ultrasound in podiatry are multifaceted.

It provides real-time imaging, enabling dynamic assessments of musculoskeletal conditions. This means that when we perform the ultrasound, we can watch anatomical structures like ligaments and muscles move during the assessment. This creates an excellent understanding of how an injured area is functioning increasing the chances of an accurate diagnosis.

With its non-invasive nature, it offers a safe alternative to traditional imaging methods. Additionally, ultrasound enhances our ability to pinpoint issues early on, facilitating prompt and targeted interventions, and is much cheaper than alternate imaging such as MRI and CT scans.

What conditions can diagnostic ultrasound diagnose?

Diagnostic ultrasound is invaluable in assessing various podiatric conditions.

From identifying the extent of inflammation in conditions like plantar fasciitis to visualising abnormalities in tendons, bones, and ligaments, as well as detecting neuromas and bursitis, this technology is versatile. Its applications extend to diagnosing joint disorders and providing a comprehensive view of the foot’s anatomical structures.

Some of the conditions that can be diagnosed on diagnostic ultrasound include:

Diagnostic ultrasound can also be used to accurately perform injection therapies at our clinic including the injection of cortisone and dextrose(prolotherapy).
